Bohol Wisdom School dominates Inaugural Saulog Quiz Bee
In a showcase of intellect and knowledge, the recently concluded 1st Saulog Quiz Bee held on April 6, 2024, at the Bohol Cultural Center marked a significant milestone as Tagbilaran’s first-ever digitalized quiz game.
Organized by the City Government of Tagbilaran, the competition saw Bohol Wisdom School (BWS) emerging as the undisputed champion in English, Science & Mathematics and Bohol Culture, History, and Tourism.
The competition, which drew participation from 13 schools across Tagbilaran City: BIT International College -Tagbilaran, Bohol Wisdom School, Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School, Greatminds Leadership Academy, Holy Name University, Holy Trinity School Foundation, Manga National High School, Mansasa National High School, San Isidro National High School, Tagbilaran City Science High School, Tagbilaran Grace Christian School, University of Bohol-Junior High School, and Victoriano D. Tirol Advanced Learning Center – showcased the academic prowess of junior high school students.
In the English, Science & Mathematics category, BWS clinched the championship title with an impressive display of proficiency.
Victoriano D. Tirol – Advance Learning Center and Tagbilaran City Science High School secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.
Similarly, in the Bohol Culture, History, and Tourism category, BWS once again asserted its dominance, securing the championship title.
The first runner-up position went to Victoriano D. Tirol – Advance Learning Center, while Holy Name University claimed the second runner-up spot.
Each participating school fielded a team composed of four students from Grades 7 to 10, accompanied by an official coach who is a faculty member of the school.
The competition featured three segments – easy, average, and difficult – each with corresponding point values of 1, 3, and 5, respectively.
In the English, Science & Mathematics category, the winning team from BWS was composed of Neil Mcdaimler Madaje, Chloe Dinolang, Aiyana Cassandra Dinolang, and Zion Lloyd Mission, coached by Francis Cornito.
Meanwhile, the BWS team for the Bohol Culture, History, and Tourism category consisted of Rey Maiko Varquez, Noah Ivan Trajano, Kriszelle Elysa Dango, and Grian Geee Suzanne Lim, under the guidance of Coach Kristhel Reyes.
The Board of Arbiters for the English, Science & Mathematics category included City Budget Officer Marysol Perocho, CPA; City Treasurer Hubert Inas, CPA; and Sangguniang Panlungsod Secretary Lynneth Mae Ibba.
For the Bohol Culture, History, and Tourism category, Mr. Marianito Jose Luspo, TCC President Dr. Del Mark Cagatin, and Mr. Piven James Sarong served as the members of the Board of Arbiters.
Mayor Jane Yap, during the event, expressed her pride over the exceptional performance of the students and congratulated all the participating schools for their dedication and hard work.
She emphasized the importance of academic excellence and encouraged the youth to continue striving for greatness in their academic pursuits.
The 1st Saulog Quiz Bee provided a platform for students to showcase their academic talents while fostering camaraderie and friendly competition among schools.
It is a testament to the commitment of Tagbilaran City to promote excellence in education and celebrate the achievements of its youth.

Taloto Wild Dragons retain title at Glow in the Dark Dragon Boat Festival
The City Government of Tagbilaran, in partnership with the Bohol Paddlers Association, successfully hosted the Glow in the Dark Dragon Boat Festival on April 7, 2024, at the Bohol Tropics Resort Seafront.
Amidst the electrifying atmosphere, the Taloto Wild Dragons once again proved their prowess, emerging as the undisputed champions of the festival. The team showcased exceptional skill and determination, clocking in at an impressive 56 minutes and 99 seconds to clinch the top spot.
Following closely, the Ubujan Paddlers secured the second position with a commendable timing of 58 minutes and 15 seconds. The Mangga Paddlers demonstrated their strength and endurance, finishing in third place with a time of 59 minutes and 48 seconds.
Rounding up the top positions, the Poblacion 2 Berdugo Dragons put up a valiant effort, crossing the finish line in an admirable one hour and 33 seconds.
The event, which illuminated the Tagbilaran bay with bright blue, green, red, and yellow hues, saw enthusiastic participation from paddling teams across the different barangays of Tagbilaran City.
Mayor Jane Yap expressed her pride in the remarkable achievements of the participating teams and commended their dedication to the sport.
“This event fosters unity and promotes physical fitness among residents of Tagbilaran. Congratulations to the Taloto Wild Dragons for their outstanding performance, ” Mayor Yap said.
She also reiterated the City Government’s support for future sporting endeavors.
The Saulog Glow in the Dark Dragon Boat Festival gained popularity online and garnered national media attention, primarily due to the use of the glow-in-the-dark boats.
All these boats paddling their way to victory presented a sight to behold.
The event not only provided thrilling entertainment but also showcased the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship among the participants.
This is a testament to the City Government’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and fostering community engagement through sports and recreational activities.
