The province of Bohol is set to enhance its collaborative efforts with the United States Peace Corps, following the recent visit of the organization’s country director, Marguerite Roy.
The meeting, held at the provincial Capitol, opened discussions on potential joint initiatives.
Roy’s visit, characterized by a warm welcome from the local officials, served as a platform for expressing gratitude and exploring avenues for showcasing the Peace Corps’ contributions in Bohol.
Jones shared her positive experiences, stating, “My fellow volunteers told me I hit the lottery in Bohol, that I’m the luckiest to be trained in the Philippines and in Bohol,” highlighting the hospitable environment she has encountered.
Boni Bucol, the training director, revealed that an additional 60 to 70 volunteers are expected to arrive in the Philippines in July, further strengthening the volunteer force in the country.
The US Peace Corps, which operates in over 60 countries, offers a unique model of service.
Volunteers live and work alongside community members, engaging in projects that address local needs. This approach fosters cultural exchange and sustainable development, impacting lives for generations to come.
As Bohol and the US Peace Corps deliberate on future projects, the prospects for mutual growth and cultural enrichment are promising, said Bucol.
The ongoing dialogue underscores a commitment to service and community engagement, setting a precedent for future collaborations, he added.
