College student identified as mother of abandoned dead baby

In a tragic turn of events, a college student has been identified as the mother of an infant found deceased and abandoned in Trinidad town, Bohol, according to media reports.

The male infant was discovered last week in a shallow grave in Barangay Poblacion, Trinidad.

Disturbingly, a stray dog had unearthed the remains, presumably mistaking them for food.

The mother, a 19-year-old college student and native of Bien Unido, also resides in Trinidad.

Her identity has been withheld for her protection.

The police were able to locate her at the Don Emilio del Valle Memorial Hospital in Ubay town, where she was reportedly undergoing a dilation and curettage procedure, locally known as ‘raspa’.

The young woman revealed that she had given birth alone on April 13, 2024, and that the infant was already deceased at birth.

She had chosen to bury the child in a shallow grave, never anticipating that a dog would exhume the remains.

Adding to the tragedy, the woman disclosed that the father of the child, also a college student, had abandoned her.

Reports said she has asked for forgiveness from the police officers handling her case.

The case is now under the jurisdiction of the Women’s and Children’s Protection Desk of Trinidad Police Station, and charges may be forthcoming.

“This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the complex social issues surrounding unplanned pregnancies and the support systems required to address them,” a police official, refusing to be named, commented.
