In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Panglao Municipal Police Station has seized an estimated P2.2 million worth of suspected shabu in a buy-bust operation.
The operation was led by PMaj. John Khalev Sanchez, Panglao Chief of Police, and his Drug Enforcement Unit.
The suspect, a 47-year-old construction worker named Gil Guitones, was apprehended yesterday morning in Purok 6, Poblacion, Panglao.
Mr. Guitones, who is also known by the alias ‘Gil’, is a resident of Calceta Street, Tagbilaran City. He was found in possession of a medium-sized sachet believed to contain shabu, P1000 in marked money, and 74 pieces of P1000 boodle money.
Upon further search, the police recovered three large sachets also suspected to contain shabu, a mobile phone, and a sling bag from Mr. Guitones’ possession. The total weight of the seized substance is estimated to be around 325 grams, with a street value of P2.2 million.
Panglao Police officials have identified Mr. Guitones as a High Value Individual (HVI) on their drug watchlist. This marks his first arrest in connection with illegal drugs.
Guitones is currently being held at the Panglao PNP jail. The seized substances have been sent to the Bohol Forensics Unit for further examination and custody.
The Panglao PNP is preparing to press charges against Guitones under sections 5 and 11, article 2 of R.A. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
