Regie Suganob defends WBO Global Light Flyweight title vs Kai Izhizawa at Kumong Bol-anon XV

BY DAVE CHARLES RESPONTE

The 15th edition of Kumong Bol-anon is scheduled for April 30, featuring a match between Regie Suganob from the Philippines and Kai Izhizawa from Japan.

Regie Suganob, a world-ranked boxer from Bohol, also known as the “Filipino Phenom”, will be defending his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Global Light Flyweight title in the main event of Kumong Bol-anon XV in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. His opponent is Kai Izhizawa, a former title challenger from Japan.

This regional title showdown is part of the annual Saulog Festival in Tagbilaran City.

The fight was officially announced on March 8, 2024, with both Suganob and Ishizawa present at the event.

Floriezyl Echavez Podot, the promoter for PMI Boxing, expressed that it’s an opportune time to host a Japanese boxer rather than sending Filipino fighters to Japan.

This will be Suganob’s first title defense since he won the title in November last year in Tagbilaran City against Ronald Chacon from Venezuela.

Suganob, 26, has previously challenged for the title and is highly rated by three boxing governing bodies. He is ranked 3rd in WBO, 6th in IBF, and 9th in WBC. His record stands at 14 wins, including 4 knockouts, and one loss.

On the other hand, 27-year-old Izhizawa has a record of 11 wins, 3 losses, and 10 knockouts.

In addition, another Boholano boxing champion, Shane Gentallan from Maribojoc, Bohol, will fight against Indonesian Wandi Priman Hulu. This fight will be the co-main event at Kumong Bol-anon XV.

Female boxers Althea Shine Pores and Renz Dacquel will compete for the Philippine title. Other supporting bouts include Angelou Dalogdog of Bilar, Bohol versus Rolan Jay Biendima of Elorde Boxing Gym Manila for 10 rounds in the 112 lbs category, and several others.

Kumong Bol-anon 15 will take place at 1:30 pm on April 30, 2024, at HNU Barder Gym, Tagbilaran City. Tickets are available at P1000 for VIP, P500 for General AD B, and P200 for General AD A. For reservations and inquiries, contact 0926-812-9638 or message the PMI Boxing Stable Facebook page.
