Tagbilaran City hosts Career Expo in celebration of 58th City Charter Day

Job seekers are  enthusiastically participating in the Career Expo 2024 and Local and Overseas Job Fair hosted by the City Government of Tagbilaran through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO). The event was held on June 22, 2024, at the City Hall Atrium.

In celebration of the 58th City Charter Day, the City Government of Tagbilaran, under the leadership of Mayor Jane Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala, successfully hosted the Career Expo 2024-Local & Overseas Job Fair on June 22, 2024 at the City Hall Atrium.

The Career Expo 2024 was organized by the City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) headed by Mark Borja, in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

The event aimed to provide numerous employment opportunities for local job seekers and overseas aspirants, bringing together a diverse range of employers from various industries.

Mayor Jane Yap emphasized the importance of the event in her message, stating, “Our Career Expo 2024 is a testament to our commitment to providing our constituents with ample opportunities for employment and professional growth.”

Chief of Staff John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II, who also graced the event, recognized the
collaborative efforts of various government agencies and private employers to ensure that job seekers have access to the best career options available, both locally and internationally.

Tagbilaran City PESO Officer Mark Borja disclosed that out of the 453 registered applicants, six were successfully hired on the spot, 104 were near-hires and 280 qualified for the position applied.  

The City PESO has actively sourced 4,174 job vacancies from 25 local and overseas employers.

Local employers who were present during the job fair include the following: Alturas Group of Companies, ASA Philippines Foundation, Inc., Bohol Quality Corporation, Cebu General Services, Inc., Du Ek Sam, Inc., Emo Philippines Inc., First Consolidated Bank, GED Loan Express Services Inc., Hennan Resort, Ibex Global Solutions Inc., JFC Franchise Bohol, Keep Diving Scuba World, Maxicare, Nuat Thai Services, Save ‘N Earn Sales, Inc., SMCT Group of Companies, TaskUs – Bohol, the Fortune Group of Companies and Toyota Tagbilaran.

Overseas employers included Lead Resources Management Corporation, Light and Hope Overseas Placement Agency, Inc., Magsaysay Careers, Placewell International Services Corporation, Panacea International Employment Resources Agency, Inc., and SMC Manpower Agency Philippines Company.

The job fair drew a large crowd of job seekers from Tagbilaran City and other municipalities.

Attendees had the opportunity to apply for a wide range of job openings, catering to diverse skills and qualifications.

The event also featured booths and services from participating agencies, offering career counseling, skills training, and information on overseas employment.

The Career Expo 2024 stands as a significant milestone in Tagbilaran City’s efforts to foster economic growth and provide its residents with opportunities for career advancement.

The City Government, along with its partners, remains committed to supporting the community through similar initiatives in the future.

Tagbilaran City College holds 2nd Commencement Exercises

Mayor Jane Yap is shown delivering an inspiring address to the 384 graduates of Tagbilaran City College (TCC) during the 2nd Commencement Exercises which took place on June 21, 2024, at the Bohol Wisdom School Gymnasium.

Tagbilaran City College (TCC), a higher education institution owned and operated by the City Government of Tagbilaran, held its second commencement exercises on June 21, 2024, at the Bohol Wisdom School Gymnasium, Tagbilaran City.

The event with the theme “Creating Our Path Forward: Innovating, Leading, and Transforming”,  honored the achievements of its graduates and underscored the institution’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

384 TCC graduates were awarded degrees in Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management, Bachelor of Science in Office Administration, and Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap expressed her pride in the graduates and the institution’s achievements, stating, “Tagbilaran City College has become a beacon of hope and opportunity for our youth. Our graduates today are the future leaders who will drive innovation and progress in our city. We are committed to supporting their journey and ensuring that TCC continues to provide quality tertiary education.”

The morning session featured recognition rites and a heartfelt tribute to parents.

Dr. Maura Consolacion Cristobal, Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 7, graced the occasion as the guest speaker, inspiring graduates and their families with her words of wisdom and encouragement.

In the afternoon, TCC founder and former City Mayor John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II delivered a powerful keynote address, emphasizing the importance of innovation, leadership, and transformation in today’s rapidly evolving world.

Addressing the graduates, Yap said, “Graduates, your journey has been marked by hard work, dedication, and resilience. You are the embodiment of our hopes and aspirations. As you step out into the world, remember that the education you received here is not just a means to a career but a tool to make meaningful contributions to society.”

Esteemed guests at the ceremony included Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala, City Councilor and Philippine Councilors League-Bohol President Nicanor Besas, and various department heads and heads of offices of the City Government of Tagbilaran.

Their presence highlighted the strong support and commitment of the local government to the success and growth of TCC.

Tagbilaran City College, established by former Mayor Baba Yap in 2019, continues to fulfill its mission of providing free tertiary education to residents.

The college achieved accreditation from CHED just two years after its founding, ensuring free tuition and miscellaneous fees for all qualified students under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

With the support of the city government and the continued dedication of its faculty and staff, TCC is poised to remain a significant force in shaping the future of education in Tagbilaran City.
