Tagbilaran observes International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking

In a powerful demonstration of unity and commitment, Tagbilaran City marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2024 with a series of activities held on June 26, 2024 at the City Hall Atrium aimed at reinforcing its stance against drug abuse and promoting a safe, healthy, and drug-free community.

The event, spearheaded by the Tagbilaran City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC), brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including local government and barangay officials, law enforcement agencies, department heads, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, civil society organization representatives and partners.

Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala opened the event with a heartfelt welcome message, setting a positive and collaborative tone for the day’s activities.

Ms. Juliet Olalo, the City Local Government Operations Officer, followed with an insightful presentation of the event’s rationale, emphasizing the importance of community involvement and sustained efforts in combating drug abuse.

Mr. Ferdenand Kintanar, Provincial Officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) delivered a compelling keynote address on the theme: “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention.”

His speech highlighted the critical need for preventive measures in the fight against drug abuse, underscoring the significance of education, community engagement, and early intervention in curbing drug-related issues. 

The highlight of the day was the signing of the Executive Order and Policy of a Drug-Free Workplace.

This underscores Tagbilaran City’s unwavering commitment to maintaining drug-free environments in all workplaces, ensuring the safety and well-being of its employees.

Mayor Jane Yap, in her solidarity message, emphasized the importance of this policy in fostering a healthy and productive workforce.

Mayor Yap also led the signing of the Executive Order and the Liga resolution, alongside the barangay captains of Tagbilaran, symbolizing a united front in the city’s anti-drug efforts.

DILG Provincial Director Jerome Gonzales gave a comprehensive overview of the Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA) program, highlighting its core strategies and expected impact on the community.

Tagbilaran CADAC TWG Chair Alvin Luis Acuzar further elaborated on the implementation of the BIDA program within the city, detailing specific initiatives and collaborative efforts designed to prevent drug abuse through education, rehabilitation, and community involvement.
