Tagbilaran City kicks off 50th Nutrition Month Celebration

The City Government of Tagbilaran, in collaboration with the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility (TCPCF), launches the 50th Nutrition Month Celebration with a special focus on high-risk pregnant women. The launching, which took place on July 5, 2024 was held at the Saulog Gym. In photo (taken during the event) is Mayor Jane Yap (the one giving away boxes of milk) together with TCPCF head, Dr. Jeia Pondoc (the one holding the boxes of milk) who led the distribution  of milk products to pregnant women.

The City Government of Tagbilaran spearheaded the kick off activities of the 50th Nutrition Month celebration on July 5, 2024, at the Saulog Gym, focusing on high-risk pregnant women as part of the “Buntis Alagaan, Bata Ampingan” program.

Mayor Jane Yap, the guest speaker, addressed the theme of this year’s celebration, “Sama-sama sa Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) sa nutrisyong sapat para sa lahat.”  She highlighted her administration’s program, “Serbisyong from womb to tomb,” which aligns with the PPAN’s goals of ensuring adequate nutrition for all.

In her speech, Mayor Yap emphasized the importance of collective effort in achieving nutrition goals, saying, “Our mission is to ensure that every mother and child receives the necessary nutrition and care from the very beginning. This is a commitment we take seriously, and with the support of our community, we can make a significant impact on the health and well-being of our future generations.”

City Health Officer and Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc introduced the “First 1000 Days” program, emphasizing the critical measures during pregnancy and delivery.

The Tagbilaran City Birthing and Baby Care Facility was also showcased for its cleanliness, well-trained midwives, and 24/7 on-call OB/Gynecologist.

Nutrition Assistant Ms. Joan Ganub, RND, provided an informative session on the importance of proper nutrition from pregnancy to lactation.

Additionally, Barangay Nutrition Scholar Rosanna Dulay Mission presented her entry for the Tagbilaran City NutriBalak poem contest by the National Nutrition Council 7, contributing to the ongoing advocacy efforts.

A key highlight of the event was the distribution of milk to pregnant women by Mayor Yap and Dr. Pondoc, with the support of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars from the city’s 15 barangays, alongside Ms. Ytess Verano, the nutrition office secretary.  

Participants who were high-risk pregnant women each received three boxes of milk specially formulated for pregnant and lactating women, in addition to free meals provided to all attendees, ensuring both immediate and sustained nutritional support.

Tagbilaran City holds free mobile services for seniors in Booy and Dao

The Tagbilaran City Government extends its free Mobile Services for Seniors to barangays Booy and Dao. The events took place on July 6 and 7, 2024. During said events, Mayor Jane Yap (in photo, standing & wearing a Filipina-inspired blouse) took time to joyfully engage in conversations with the senior citizens from the city.

In a continued effort to support and care for the elderly, the City Government of Tagbilaran, led by Mayor Jane Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala, organized free mobile services for senior citizens in Barangay Booy on July 6, 2024, and Barangay Dao on July 7, 2024.

The Gugma sa Tagbilaran Libreng Mobile Services for Senior Citizens included:  Comprehensive health check-ups to monitor and manage various health conditions common among seniors;  Distribution of free medication for those with chronic conditions; Dental services; ECG for heart monitoring; and Legal Services providing access to legal advice and assistance for the elderly. Grooming services like free haircut, massage, and hair color treatments were also available to boost morale and well-being.  

Additional services included rabies vaccinations for pets owned by seniors to ensure the safety and health of their animals, and the distribution of vegetable seedlings to encourage gardening as a healthy and therapeutic activity.

Mayor Jane Yap emphasized the importance of such initiatives, saying, “Our senior citizens have contributed so much to our city.  It is our duty to ensure they receive the care and support they deserve. By bringing these services directly to them, we hope to make their lives a little easier and show our gratitude for their lifelong contributions.”

The turnout for the event was significant, with numerous seniors from barangays Booy and Dao benefiting from the services provided. Many expressed their gratitude for the city’s efforts, highlighting the positive impact of the program on their lives.

Booy Punong Barangay Eutorgio Telmo Jr. and Dao Punong Barangay Alberto Puagang, along with their respective Sangguniang Barangay and employees, warmly received the city’s team. They expressed their gratitude for the initiative, highlighting its importance for the senior citizens.

The Gugma sa Tagbilaran Libreng Mobile Services for Senior Citizens program is set to continue, with future events planned across different barangays in Tagbilaran City, further demonstrating the city’s unwavering commitment to its elderly.
