2 airlines make maiden flight from Korea to Bohol Panglao airport

Jin Air inaugurated its maiden flight from Incheon, South Korea, to Bohol Panglao International Airport (BPIA) on Friday, marking the second direct route opened between South Korea and the province in just three days.

The Jin Air aircraft landed at BPIA at 2:38 a.m. local time, carrying 185 passengers.

This new route is expected to bolster tourism and strengthen economic ties between South Korea and the Philippines.

The flight arrival was met with a warm reception from local officials and airport staff.

A traditional water cannon salute greeted the aircraft as it taxied to its gate, symbolizing a ceremonial welcome for new airline services.

Passengers disembarked to a festive atmosphere, complete with cultural performances highlighting Bohol’s rich heritage.

Jin Air’s new service follows closely on the heels of Air Seoul, which launched its direct Incheon-Panglao flights on Wednesday night.

Air Seoul’s aircraft, which arrived with 190 passengers on board, was the first airline to establish a direct route between South Korea and Bohol.

The rapid succession of these new routes underscores the growing interest and demand for travel between South Korea and the Philippines.

Bohol Congressman Edgar Chatto, author on Philippine tourism law, expressed optimism about the new flights, noting that they signify a significant boost to the local economy and tourism industry, which is recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Bohol is ready and excited to welcome more international visitors. These new routes will make it easier for travelers to experience our beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and world-renowned attractions like the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier Sanctuary,” Chatto said.

The addition of Jin Air and Air Seoul flights is expected to increase passenger traffic at BPIA, positioning the airport as a key gateway for international tourists visiting Central Visayas.

Local businesses, including hotels, resorts, and tour operators, are preparing for the anticipated influx of visitors.

Tourism officials are hopeful that these new direct flights will pave the way for more international airlines to establish routes to Bohol, further enhancing the province’s connectivity and appeal as a top travel destination in the Philippines.
