Chatto meets Central Bank Gov on Bohol branch

Cong. Edgar Chatto received Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli Remolona in his office at the House of Representatives after the Development Budget Coordination Committee Meeting on August 5.

On the visit, Remolona was joined by Bangko Sentral officials, including Senior Assistant Governor and General Legal Counsel Atty. Elmore Capule as well as National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan and Vice Chair of the House Committee on Appropriations Cong. Stella Quimbo.

A main agenda during the discussions was the push for the establishment of the Central Bank Bohol Branch in Dauis.

The BSP is reviewing the study on the “Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Branch Rationalization Study Final Report” by the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, National Engineering Center of the University of the Philippines (UP) which gave a favorable rating for the Bohol branch of the BSP.

To recall, a Central Bank Branch is in the pipeline of Bohol’s development to support the province’s thriving banking sector.

When Chatto was then governor, a groundbreaking was held with the late Governor Nestor Espenilla after the approval by the Monetary Board during the term of then Governor Amando M. Tetangco.

According to Chatto, the priority project remains vital to Bohol’s economic growth, addresses the province’s need for a cash distribution system and ensures the security of bulk cash transfers. It is also expected to serve as a financial learning center and post for its bank examiners.
