UB VDTALC alumnus excels in International Nuclear Science Olympiad 2024

Jeremiah Evasco Auza, an alumnus of the University of Bohol Victoriano D. Tirol Advance Learning Center (UB VDTALC) Elementary and currently a student at the Philippine Science High School Central Visayas (PSHS), has won a silver medal in the first International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2024). The event was held from August 1-6, 2024 at the SMX Convention Center in New Clark City, Pampanga. 

Auza, a member of the Philippine team, competed against 55 of the brightest secondary school students from 14 countries across the Asia-Pacific region. Demonstrating exceptional knowledge and skill, Auza secured the second spot in the theoretical scores for nuclear science. The contestants participated as teams representing their respective countries but competed as individuals in both experimental and theoretical exams.

The olympiad, aimed at expanding young people’s understanding of nuclear science and inspiring them to become future change-makers. It also seeks to create an international network for nuclear energy. The event highlights the importance of fostering global collaboration and innovation in the field.   

INSO 2024 is organized by the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) in partnership with various   agencies and is supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This initiative underscores the Philippines’ commitment to advancing nuclear education and promoting the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology.

By hosting this prestigious competition, the Philippines showcases  its dedication to nurturing the next generation of nuclear scientists and engineers, thereby contributing to global efforts in sustainable energy and technological development.

UB athletes haul 54 medals at National PRISAA 2024

  THE TEAM TO BEAT! – University of Bohol Athletic Team at the National PRISAA Meet 2024 in  Legazpi City, held from July 20-26, 2024. In photo are coaches, trainers and athletes.

The University of Bohol delegation achieved an impressive feat by garnering a total of 54 medals at the National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Meet 2024, held from July 20-26, 2024 in Legazpi City.

The team secured 20 gold, 27 silver, and 7 bronze medals, contributing 37% to the overall medal standings of Region VII – Central Visayas. Their gold haul accounted for   13% of the total 87% gold medals won by Region VII.   

Led by Dr. Lemuel O. Belarmino, Dean of Student Personnel Services, and Dr. Lino N. Garsuta, Athletics Coordinator, the university team is the largest among private schools in Bohol.  With the all-out support from the University, the athletes were guided by their dedicated coaches and trainers:  Marven Jumawid (athletics), Carlo Tirzo Cresencio (3×3 basketball), Lemuel Belarmino and Jay ando (beach volleyball boys), Sonny Alvarez and Eden Lucero (karatedo), Michael Angelo Opalla (swimming HS boys/college), Mary Ann Madlos (swimming HS girls), Asterio Pocot (Boxing), Victor John Anunciado (taekwondo women), and Samuel Alegada (weightlifting).
