The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Central Visayas has announced that it will begin enforcing the ban on non-compliant improvised and temporary plates on motor vehicles and motorcycles starting September 1, 2024.
This move is in line with the implementation of LTO Memorandum Circular No. VDM-2024-2721, which outlines the guidelines for the use of improvised and temporary motor vehicle/motorcycle plates nationwide.
The circular, which was issued on July 1, 2024, revokes Memorandum Circular No. JMT-2023-2400, also known as the “Use of improvised temporary/motor vehicle plates.”
According to LTO 7 Regional Director Glen Galario, the agency is committed to ensuring the safety of motorists by enforcing proper identification of all motor vehicles and motorcycles on the road.
Galario urged vehicle owners to comply with the new regulations and obtain the necessary documents to avoid any inconvenience.
Under Memorandum Circular No. VDM-2024-2721, all improvised plates that are used as a substitute for lost or damaged plate numbers while waiting for a duplicate plate request to be processed must be authorized by the LTO.
These improvised plates must also display the designated plate number and the words “improvised plate” and are only valid until the actual plate number is received.
Galario stressed that the LTO will strictly enforce the new guidelines to ensure that all motor vehicles and motorcycles on the road have proper identification.
Vehicle owners are advised to comply with the regulations to avoid any penalties or fines.
LTO’s move to crack down on temporary plates is part of its efforts to improve road safety and reduce the risk of accidents caused by unregistered or unidentified vehicles.
