ALL SET OCTOBER 5

More than 3,000

join Pink Run 2024

A total of 3,031 runners will hit the road on October 5, in this year’s Pink Run scheduled at the Island City Mall carpark, the same starting and finishing point as in the two previous runs before.

This was confirmed by Mrs. Gay Bernaldez of the Alay Marcela Foundation of the Alturas Group of Companies (AGC) after the registration of participants ended last Thursday, September 5. She said there are more runners this year than last year’s 2,600 in Pink Run 2023, and 1,600 in Pink Run 2022.

She added that more and more are really joining the prestigious charity run which promotes breast cancer awareness and at the same time helps provide financial assistance to the cancer patients or survivors. It is a part of the nationwide observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month of October.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes; thus came a strong clamor to promote more awareness about early detection and prevention of the deadly disease, especially among the vulnerable women population.

The Pink Run 2024 is open to all runners of all ages, amateur and professional, or even running enthusiasts. Categories are 5K, 10K, and 21K. Prizes and freebies await both the winners in each category as well as all the participants.

This afternoon at 1:30, the beneficiaries of Pink Run 2024 will be presented to the public as part of the advocacy on cancer awareness at the ICM Activity Center, afterwhich a press conference with the local media will follow.

Other activities of the Pink Bayanihan for Breast Cancer Awareness Month of October at the Island City Mall are the Pink Bazaar from October 6 to 12, and the Zumba-for-a-Cause on October 12, which has more than 700 registered participants already.

Also happening today at the ICM Activity Center is the first schedule of donation drive of “Strands of Love”, a hair donation campaign initiated by the Alay Marcela Foundation of AGC and the University of Bohol aimed to donate wigs to people affected with medical hair loss, mostly cancer victims.

Everybody is encouraged to donate any hair for the said worthwhile cause. All they have to do is visit the venue today for hair cut, or on the second schedule of donation drive at the University of Bohol on October 4.

The hair donation drive can at least produce or create custom-fitted wigs, proven to be effective in maintaining the dignity, confidence, and self-esteem of the patients, and thus possess a positive outlook in life.
