Cong. Edgar Chatto expressed pride at achievements of freshmen students of the Bohol Island State University (BISU) School of Medicine (SoM).
The first district solon was apprised on the medical school developments during the courtesy visit of Dr. Marvie Harmel Darbandi, Dean of the BISU School of Medicine together with Dr. Ramon Delfierro and Dr. Meysam Hamel Darbandi.
A team from the institution was sent to the Philippines Academic Association of Biochemists Medical Biochemistry Competition.
Comprised of Yansen Estrella, Stephanie Polinar Tiongco, Jonorry Bryan Pusta, Aubrey Igot Espina and Rosheil Joy Bajao, they placed 5th in the event.
Meanwhile, BISU SoM students also reached the semi-finals in the recent International Medical Physiology Quiz competition among medical schools nationwide and international medical schools from Australia, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, among others.
At present, 48 first year students and 22 second year students are enrolled at the BISU SoM, according to Darbandi.
Chatto lauded BISU SoM on remarkable achievements on its first year of operations.
He also underscored the complementarity of the medical institution with Bohol colleges and universities who provide the pre-med education of the medical students.
This he stated was an important aspect of establishing the medical school which is expected to produce the province’s future doctors who will also serve in health centers in the future.
Chatto also recently met with Dr. Elliot Lawrence Tirol, chief of hospital of the Governor Celestino Gallares Multi-Specialty Medical Center in Cortes and was updated on the ongoing construction work.
Both health developments were initiated by Chatto in efforts to upgrade health service delivery in the province, in support of provincial and national development thrusts in health care.
