Tagbilaran City holds free spay and neuter services for pets

In a significant move to promote responsible pet ownership, the City Government of Tagbilaran, led by the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office, conducted a comprehensive free spay and neuter campaign for dogs and cats from September 11 to 13, 2024.

The initiative was carried out in Barangays Poblacion 3, San Isidro, and Bool, underscoring the city’s commitment to responsible pet ownership and public health.

The program, spearheaded by Dr. Genette Mae Egos-Yap and the team from the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office, provided a range of vital services including spaying, neutering, rabies vaccinations, and deworming.

This free-of-charge service aimed to curb the stray animal population and enhance the overall health of pets in the community. The initiative was part of the city’s broader strategy to address animal welfare issues and encourage responsible pet care.

City Mayor Jane Yap lauded the initiative, highlighting its importance to the community.

“Ensuring the health and well-being of our pets is essential for fostering a compassionate and responsible society,” Mayor Yap stated. “By offering these critical services, we are not only improving the lives of our animals but also nurturing a culture of responsible pet ownership. I urge all pet owners to take full advantage of these services to support our collective goal of a healthier community.”

Dr. Egos-Yap emphasized the broader impact of the program on responsible pet ownership.

“Spaying and neutering are key components in controlling pet overpopulation and ensuring animal health,” Dr. Egos remarked. She also said,  “We also advocate for regular health check-ups, vaccinations, and proper care as integral parts of responsible pet ownership. This initiative is a step towards fostering a community that prioritizes the well-being of its animals.”

By providing these services at no cost to pet owners, the City Government of Tagbilaran demonstrates its commitment to safeguarding public health and promoting a safer and healthier environment.

The event was well-received by city residents, who valued the convenience and accessibility of the services offered.

This successful campaign highlights Tagbilaran City’s commitment to improving public health and animal welfare, setting a positive example for responsible pet care in the province.
