The first-ever CG-animated “Transformers” movie about the untold origin story of sworn enemies Optimus Prime and Megatron who once were friends bonded like brothers, “Transformers One” is still showing on its second week at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall.   

Set on the fictional planet of Cybertron, the sci-fi action prequel centers around the history of the Transformer race and the relationship between two Cybertronian workers named Orion Pax and D-16 as they go from being friends and brothers-in-arms to become archenemies known as Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively.

         “Transformers One” features a star-studded voice cast, including Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots who transforms into a truck; Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons who transforms into a silver tank; Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, the love interest of Optimus who transforms into a motorcycle; Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, an Autobot scout who transforms into a yellow car;  Steve Buscemi as Starscream; Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion; and Jon Hamm as the Sentinel Prime, the head of Cybertron. 

“TRANSFORMERS ONE” is still showing on its second week at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.

The clown prince of crime returns to the big screen in the anticipated sequel to DC Comics’ Joker (2019), “Joker: Folie à Deux”, which will premiere on Wednesday, October 2, at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.   

        Joaquin Phoenix reprises his title role as the Joker with pop star Lady Gaga as his love interest Lee Quinzel. Two years after the events of the first film, Arthur Fleck aka Joker, a mentally ill, criminal with a clown-inspired persona, is now a patient at Arkham State Hospital. 

        When he falls in love with fellow inmate Lee, they form a deadly romantic relationship. The two experience musical madness through their linked insanity, thus, came the French title “Folie à Deux”, which means  “Madness for Two.” 

        “Joker” was a box office success grossing over $1 billion against a $62.5 million budget. In addition, the film received 11 Oscar nominations and two wins, with Phoenix following the late Heath Ledger in winning an acting Oscar for his performance as the classic Batman antagonist. 

“JOKER: FOLIE à DEUX” will premiere on Wednesday, October 2 at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.

Pink Run 2024 fires off Saturday

More than 3,000 runners are all set to take part in the much-awaited Alturas Pink Run 2024 this coming Saturday morning, October 5, winding its way from the Island City Mall carpark as the starting line up to the boundary of Brgy. Taguihon and San Isidro, Baclayon which is the turning point for 21K runners.     

        As of September 5, the last day of registration, there are 3,336 professional and other running enthusiasts who already registered in different categories — 5k, 10k, and 21k. The gun start for each category is 4:30 am for 5k, 4:00 am for 10k, and 3:30 am for 21k. 

        A part of the nationwide observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month of October, the Pink Run is the most prestigious charity run organized for the third time in a row by the Alturas Group of Companies, whose aim is to raise awareness about breast cancer and at the same time help provide financial assistance to the breast cancer patients.  

       In the “Pink Run” 2022, around 1,600 runners had joined the benefit run, with the gross proceeds of P200,000 donated to the 20 beneficiaries, mostly breast cancer patients, who received cash assistance worth P10,000 each. Last year, there were more than 2,600 runners with the gross proceeds of P336,000 donated to the 27 beneficiaries at P16,000 each.             

       According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes; thus came a strong clamor to promote more awareness about early detection and prevention of the deadly disease, especially among the vulnerable women population.
