Whistleblower calls for journalistic integrity, condemns biased Bohol media

Media watchdog and whistleblower Ronie Orillosa criticized journalists and broadcasters who compromise their objectivity by taking political sides, emphasizing the importance of unbiased reporting during a recent radio broadcast.

Speaking on “Open Forum” over DYTR, Orillosa addressed what he described as a growing concern in Bohol media practices.

“Journalists must maintain their independence and avoid any appearance of political favoritism,” he said during the program hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Gloria Leodivica Araneta.

Orillosa said that media professionals should refrain from endorsing political candidates, arguing that such actions undermine journalistic integrity.

He called for higher professional standards in the industry, urging practitioners to rise above mediocrity and resist financial incentives that could compromise their reporting.

“The public relies on journalists to provide accurate, unbiased information,” Orillosa said. “This trust is fundamental to our democracy.”

Orillosa also addressed the issue of political demolition campaigns, condemning politicians who use smear tactics for political gain.

He advocated for transparent governance and increased citizen participation in political processes.

Orillosa hosts a regular segment on The Bohol Tribune’s “Open Forum” program, which airs Monday through Friday from 12 noon to 1 p.m.
