The Philippines stands to gain from a shift to renewable energy, according to former Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap.
Atty. Yap, former Bohol Governor, made the statement in an interview after filing his Certificate of Candidacy for the 2025 midterm elections as the nominee of the Murang Kuryente Party-list.
A large portion of Filipinos’ income goes to electricity bills, Yap said.
However, he believes that renewable energy can help reduce these costs.
Renewable energy sources, such as wind, geothermal, and solar power, have lower installation costs and are in high demand globally as countries seek to mitigate climate change.
“There is no other way to make energy more reliable than through renewables,” Yap said. “If we can have more renewables and more investors, that’s what we’re looking at in Congress. To streamline the policies in power to attract more investors. When there are more investors, prices will go down.”
Yap’s party-list aims to promote the use of renewable energy to make electricity more affordable for Filipinos.
