Tagbilaran selected for DTI’s Creative Cities Program

BY GLORIA LEODIVICA INES ARANETA

Tagbilaran City has been selected as one of the five cities for the 2024 Innovation and Creative Entrepreneurship (ICE) Creative Cities Program, an initiative of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Creative Industries Development Office.

Joining Tagbilaran in this prestigious program are Bacolod, Iligan, Koronadal, and San Fernando in La Union.

As part of the ICE Creative Cities Program, Tagbilaran City will receive specialized support to develop a tailored creative roadmap that integrates innovation with community-centered projects. This roadmap aims to drive sustainable growth by fostering an environment where local creativity and entrepreneurship can thrive, ultimately positioning the city as a strong contender for future UNESCO Creative City recognition.

According to DTI, the program seeks to strengthen each city’s creative industries, helping them to leverage local talent, culture, and innovation.

Through these efforts, Tagbilaran City is expected to become a hub for creative enterprises that support economic development, cultural richness, and community engagement.

Mayor Jane Yap expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity, noting that the city’s inclusion in the ICE Creative Cities Program aligns with its vision to become a model city for innovation in Bohol.

“This recognition is not only a milestone for Tagbilaran but also a powerful reminder of the importance of creativity in driving progress.”We are committed to working with DTI and our creative community in Tagbilaran to build an inclusive and innovative future,” she shared.

The DTI’s initiative represents a broader effort to position the Philippines as a leader in creative industries across Southeast Asia, aligning with global standards and enhancing local opportunities.
