Government authorities on Wednesday destroyed a massive haul of seized drugs worth P489.4 million pesos, in a bid to demonstrate the government’s commitment to eradicating the country’s drug problem.
The destroyed substances, which included 71.83 kilograms of shabu (methamphetamine) and 3.38 kilograms of marijuana, were seized in various operations conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Central Visayas since June 2024.
The destruction ceremony, held in Cebu, was witnessed by representatives from the media, the PNP, and the PDEA, as well as Judge Ruelo Saladaga, Presiding Judge of the Regional Trial Court 69 in Lapu-Lapu City.
According to PDEA Regional Director Alex Tablate, the destruction of the seized substances serves as proof that there is no recycling of seized drugs, as they are immediately turned over to the Crime Laboratory for examination and analysis after seizure.
