Connectivity tops Chatto, PLDT/SMART agenda

Improvements in connectivity is being pursued for the first district of Bohol.

Cong. Edgar Chatto met with Eric Santiago, PLDT/Smart Network head, Ruby Montoya, Head of Enterprise Resource Group handling public sector, Leno Tapat, Senior Manager and head of New Technology Services Presales and Glenn Deles, Senior relations manager.

The productive meeting tackled priority areas for advancing both fixed and wireless telecommunications infrastructure in the first district.

Santiago lauded Chatto’s leadership in addressing connectivity needs. He cited collaborative efforts of Smart that started when Chatto was governor back in 2010.

It can be recalled that Digital Bohol was launched in 2014, with PLDT inaugurating 150 kilometers of submarine fiber optic cables that linked the province with the major network centers in Visayas and Mindanao.

Chatto had personally met with PLDT CEO Manny Pangilinan in his Makati office before the launching activity.

PLDT President Napoleon Nazareno was the guest of honor during the launch at the Bohol Cultural Center and the Digital Bohol Summit followed soon after.

Digital Bohol was aimed at the development of Information and Communications Technology as a pillar for the province’s economic growth.

The Bohol (ICT) Council had been a strong partner of Chatto in the push for bringing in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) locators here.

Strengthening internet connectivity, investing in location infrastructure and fostering IT-related education led to the establishment of BPOs here, opening thousands of jobs.

Chatto, in partnership with Smart, is working towards strengthening connectivity to expand opportunities in the sector.
