BOHOL CONSUMERS’ NETWORK: ELECTRIC POWER CONSULTATIVE MEETING

A high-profile consultative meeting on addressing high electricity costs was held in Bohol, bringing together key stakeholders and experts to discuss strategies for reducing power bills.

The event, organized by the Bohol Consumers’ Network, featured a lineup of prominent speakers, including former Governor Art Yap, who shared his insights on the issue. Yap, a nominee for Murang Kuryente Partylist, noted his achievements as governor, including the implementation of projects that brought water to island communities, which was previously deemed impossible. “I was told that it was impossible to bring water to the islands, but we made it happen,” Yap said, citing the example of the Baclayon water system, which was built through a desalination plant that converts seawater into fresh water.

The governor also expressed his support for renewable energy, citing the potential of solar and wind power to reduce the province’s reliance on fossil fuels. The meeting also featured a presentation by Rene Espinosa on the Murang Kuryente vision, which hopes to provide affordable electricity to consumers. Carlo Alcano, a renewable energy advocate, also shared his expertise on the benefits of transitioning to renewable energy sources.

The event was moderated by Ardy Araneta-Batoy, with Kevin Damalerio delivering the closing statement. The meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including consumers, business leaders, and government officials, who engaged in a lively discussion on the issue of high electricity costs and potential solutions.]
