Former Bohol Governor Arthur Yap made his first public appearance since exiting politics in 2022, attending the Annual General Membership Assembly of the Bohol Electric Cooperative I (BOHECO 1) in Tubigon, Bohol, on Saturday.
Yap, a lawyer by profession, addressed over 10,000 member-consumer-owners of the cooperative, marking his return to the public eye after a two-year hiatus.
The assembly was also attended by BOHECO 1 officials, including General Manager Dino Nicolas Roxas, as well as Bohol lawmakers Edgar Chatto and Vanessa Aumentado, who delivered their own speeches.
During his address, Yap announced that he has accepted the nomination to be the first candidate of the MurangKuryentepartylist, a group advocating for lower electricity costs in the country.
Yap cited the lack of representation in Congress for the cause of affordable electricity, stating that he aims to be the voice of electric consumers pushing for reduced power costs.
Notably, Yap’s decision to join the partylist comes despite his earlier intention to retire from local politics.
His involvement in MurangKuryente is praised as a development in the country’s ongoing efforts to address the high cost of electricity, a major concern for many Filipino households and businesses.
The MurangKuryentepartylist’s platform resonates with many Filipinos, who have long been burdened by expensive electricity rates, Yap said.
