Establishing offices of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) are the next goals for Bohol.
This was bared by Cong. Edgar Chatto on Friday’s Kita UgAtongKongresista.
The first district solon reported discussions with DMW. Sec Hans Cacdac on the opening of a DMW Office in Bohol, designating Usec. Bernard Olalia to work with Chatto’s office on the plan together with the DMW Regional Director.
Sec. Cacdac prefers to have it in a mall as well like the Department of Foreign Affairs which recently opened at the 5th floor of the Alturas Mall, Chatto said.
Chatto has long been working with DFA and DMW on varoius OFW concerns including legal assistance to those with pending cases and repatriation of OFWs in crisis situations.
Meanwhile, Chatto is pushing for the establishment of an LTFRB Office in Bohol.
This will give convenience to those in the transport industry who need not go to Cebu everytime they need services from LTFRB, Chatto explained.
The House Committees on Transportation and Appropriation in Congress have approved House Bill No. 9031, authored by Chatto.
The measure seeks to put up an LTFRB office in the province, making its mandate of the granting of franchises or accreditation and regulating public vehicles accessible.
The proposed LTFRB Provincial Office in Bohol, apart from expediting processes and minimizing costs in accessing its services, will more importantly ensure the safety, accessibility and availability of public transportation system for the benefit of the commuters.
The LTFRB is also in charge of regulating and adjusting fares for public transport services, and prescribing or regulating the routes or areas of operation for these services.
It is the body which investigates and hears complaints against erring and disrespectful drivers as well as public transport vehicles that figure in accidents or incur violations.
“The primary goal is to bring services of National Agencies closer to the Boholanos in order save time as well as resources in processing documents,” Chatto stated.
In November, the LTO Extension Office in Tubigon as well as the DFA office in Tagbilaran City, both initiated by Chatto.
He also caused the opening of the Bureau of Immigration and Professional Regulation Commission in the province.
