IBP-BOHOL DISTRIBUTES BUNDLES OF JOY TO PERSONS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY (PDL) AND NYOR/A: ABOGADONG BOL-ANON PRIVILEGE CARDS TO LAWYERS

Last August, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) – Bohol Chapter, through its 26th Board of Officers and Directors, launched Mapagpalaya: IBP-Bohol Jail Decongestion Program. IBP-Bohol gathered the different stakeholders to chart the program comprised of three (3) phases: (1) database building by doing jail visits and interviews; (2), active representation for the release of eligible PDLs; and (3) reintegration program, projects, and activities.

In connection with Mapagpalaya, the IBP-Bohol decided that the PDLs of Bohol District Jail (BDJ) and Tagbilaran City Jail (TCJ) will be this year’s beneficiaries of the Chapter’s Bundle of Joy Program. Every year, Chapter members contribute to the Bundle of Joy Fund to come-up with gifts at the end of the year to be given to the less fortunate. Last Friday, December 20, 2024, yours truly, Atty. John Jeric Lim (Vice President and Legal Aid Chairperson), Atty. Jervis Clifford Vertulfo (Director and Mapagpalaya Coordinator) and Ms. Princess Pumatong (Legal Aid Clerk) distributed Bundles of Joy to BDJ and TCJ represented by their Wardens, Jail Supt. Tomas Diaz and Jail Sr. Inspector Atty. Rommel Balili, respectively.

Also the past week, IBP-Bohol distributed its first-ever Abogadong Bol-anon Privilege Cards to its members. Dubbed as Nyor/a, which is an informal term of endearment among lawyers, aims to provide Judges, Prosecutors and Lawyers with privilege cards giving them discounts and freebies from select participating establishments. At the same time, it will help and boost the local economy and contribute foot traffic to partner establishments especially those owned by lawyers.
