Mild quake jolts Loon on Christmas Day
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a 2.3-magnitude earthquake on Christmas Day morning at the northern part of Loon town.
The said quake was also detected in nearby towns, reports add.
Moreover, no casualties were recorded as a result of the incident.
The quake has been touted to be related to the fault that caused the magnitude 7.2 quake that took place about 11 years ago.
Boholanos have become sensitive to quakes as a result of the experience in 2013.
Bohol hosts fault lines, one of which is the fault that stretches from Baclayon and to the towns of the eastern part of Bohol.
In 2024, several quakes have been recorded along this fault, and experts say people should prepare for the movement of this fault.
Man arrested in buy bust in Candijay
A man was arrested following a buy bust operation in Candijay town, early morning of Dec. 27, 2024, according to reports.
Police conducted an anti-illegal drug operation at barangay Panadtaran.
The suspect was identified as a certain Jomari Paeldan, 21, a resident of Mabini town.
The police staged a sting operation after the suspect was detected to be allegedly involved in the drug trade.
The police confiscated alleged shabu worth P1.700 and the suspect was taken into custody and may face charges of violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Lucky snake bite victim survives ordeal
A woman who was bitten by a poisonous snake and luckily survived the ordeal as she was promptly given an anti-venom in Dagohoy town.
Reports said that the woman was given an antidote to the poison from the snake bite, showing the effectiveness of the anti-venom when given at the soonest time possible.
The woman, a resident of barangay San Miguel, was bitten by a poisonous snake on Dec. 3, 2024, belated reports state.
The victim said that she was about to tend to her pet carabao when did not notice the snake and she stepped on it.
As she stepped on the snake, the reptile got hurt and retaliated by biting the human.
The victim narrated that the snake upon biting her got stuck on her foot and then she was able to remove the snake.
Armed with a sense of urgency, she asked for help and travelled to Don Emilio del Valle Memorial Medical Center in Ubay town.
The victim promptly received the anti-venom and thus saving her life, reports add.
She is now recovering from the snake bites and has survived a rare ordeal with a poisonous snake.
Experts say that people bitten by a poisonous snake should seek immediate medical attention and avoid going to folk doctors for help.
There were three known cases of snake bites took place in Bohol this year involving minor where all of the victims died.
Alicia mayor fuming after council denies plan to secure Landbank loan
Alicia mayor Victoriano “Dong” Torres has shown his anger and effectively took the sword from its sheath towards the majority of the members of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) for thumbing down the plan to secure a loan with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).
The mayor asked the SB to provide him authority to transact with the LBP to obtain a loan to be used for Alicia College’s operation.
According to reports on Dec. 27, 2024, the mayor unleashed his disgust over the decision of the town council to deny him the opportunity to get an LBP loan via a video posted on social media.
The mayor wanted to get a P75 million loan for the operation of the local school.
Torres said he had to cut his trip abroad short to attend to the latest development.
He blamed the majority of the councilors for the derailment of the plan to fund the college’s operations. Torres, also blamed Vice Mayor Cesyl Balahay as Balahay said he is only the presiding officer and cannot sway the decision of the majority.
Torres said the majority of SB members have no pity on the families of students who want to study at the local college.
Meanwhile, a report said Coun. Deanfel Corre explained the SB did not provide authority to the mayor because allegedly Torres created its which was not backed by an ordinance.
Corre said the town has an outstanding loan, which remained not fully paid,
Corre said that even if the mayor was granted authority to get a loan, the money will not be used immediately as the school plans to open in 2026.
Hall of justice dream gets closer to reality says Chatto
Cong. Edgar Chatto said he was told that the plan of having a new Hall of Justice for Tagbilaran City has moved closer to reality.
In his interview with Newsmakers ug Uban Pa host Ardy Araneta-Batoy on Dec. 27, 2023, the congressman shared the latest development on the plan.
He said he was told by lawyer Raquel Logriano, the deputy court administrator, that the project is now in the final phase of detailed engineering design.
Once completed, the design will be submitted to the Court en banc for approval, the solon said.
Chatto urged the Supreme Court to build a new Hall of Justice as the current one, adjacent to the Provincial Capitol, has become dilapidated.
He said the bench and the bar need to have a new place to work in order to properly dispense justice
The future Hall of Justice will be located in barangay Bool near Camella Homes at the foot of Mt. Banat-i.
Chatto hopes that soon, procurement that would lead to the construction of the building will happen in 2025.
