Cong. Edgar Chatto, via zoom facilities, met with Tourism Attache Hazel Javier based in Taiwan. This was for a discussion on the planned Taipei-Bohol direct Flights eyed to open in March 2025. According to Chatto, this will diversify connectivity to the province, enhance tourism and create more jobs. Since Chatto principally authored the Tourism Act of 2009 with then Sen. Richard Gordon, more tourist arrivals and investments have stimulated economic growth and development in the country. The law strengthened the Department of Tourism, established The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) and Duty Free Philippines (DTF). Sec 34 of the same law opened the doors for concreting of roads leading to tourism sites, ports and seaports covering both national and local roads to enhance convenient connectivity. Related to this, Chatto also principally authored RA 9446 Declaring the Province of Bohol as an Eco-Cultural Tourism Zone making all roads qualify under Sec. 34 of the Tourism Act. Contributed photo
