A desirable model from the PNP

She is unassuming!

She is articulate!

She is humble!

She is beautiful!

She is dignified!

She is a police officer!

These are just few of the adjectives we could give to the operations chief of the Tactical Operations Center in Camp Dagohoy, Tagbilaran City.

As she guested on January 23, 2025 in one of the top-rated radio programs over dyTR’s OPEN FORUM, BUKAS NGA PANAGSULTIHAY handled by Ardy Ines Araneta-Batoy, the police officer first stressed that there is really a need for checkpoints in the province. These are inevitable activities and are done consistently, contrary to what some observers say.

The lady officer was the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) representative to the weekly radio program “Lambigit ug Sibya” done every Thursday from 12:00nn to 1:00 pm cradled by OPEN FORUM. According to the resource speaker, checkpoints help the work of the police.

She said people might construe that the police are not conducting checkpoints in some areas and are doing the job only in the areas of their choice. This is not true according to her because the police conduct sporadic checkpoints to cover the entire province. She also stressed that there are times when the police would conduct checkpoints now in one area and will be conducting checkpoints in another area at a certain time and in other areas during the succeeding times.

Again, this is contrary to the perception of some people saying that checkpoints are not consistent. She said that if the police will conduct checkpoints in the same area all the time, the criminals will avoid the area, and arrests will be impossible.

Most of the time, when checkpoints are done, the police will check for possible traffic violations and, during election season, for the implementation of the gun ban.

Even with the gun ban already implemented, the officer said that there are still people who would carry guns and will do their bidding, and they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The lady officer added the information that even the uniformed personnel have limitations in gun carrying during the gun ban period and only certified exemptions are issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to people who will be allowed to carry guns during the said gun ban period. She further emphasized that the gun ban is needed to curb election-related violence.

In another development, she explained that the reason for the temporary reshuffling of personnel is to prevent the possibility that the police officers could influence voters in favor of a certain candidate who are their relatives and close associates.

When asked about some positive traits of a policeman, she quickly mentioned: integrity, empathy, effective communication, adaptability, and a commitment to community engagement.

She continued by saying that police officers should be familiar with these traits: ethical, critical thinker, servant leader, physically fit, courageous, has good discernment, and performs well under pressure, without forgetting that he/she has to be adaptable in high stress situations.
