Bohol First District Board Member Aldner Damalerio said Wednesday that certain legislative measures, such as the 10-year solid waste plan, have a lasting impact on the lives of Boholanos.

Damalerio, speaking to journalist Ardy Araneta-Batoy, noted that products purchased in the province are manufactured elsewhere and imported, but the resulting trash remains in Bohol.

In the interview, he pointed out the importance of proper solid waste management, saying that without it, the garbage problem would become a giant issue.

Damalerio also praised the legacy of former Gov. Edgar Chatto, who institutionalized disaster risk reduction and management in the province.

The office responsible for disaster risk reduction has become a multi-awarded entity, and other localities are looking to Bohol as a model for disaster risk reduction and management.

The disaster risk reduction and management office was established through the efforts of Chatto and former provincial administrator Alfonso “Ae” Damalerio, with the Telephone and Radio System Integrated Emergency Response (TARSIER 117).

Damalerio said that Chatto’s ability to plan for long-term projects and take a holistic approach to development is admirable.

Chatto’s vision has led to tangible benefits, including a law creating a framework for temporary summer jobs for students.

The law has benefited not only Boholanos but also students from other parts of the country.

Damalerio, who is seeking reelection for his third and final term, remains committed to working for the betterment of the people.

He is considered one of the strongest contenders to retain a seat on the provincial board.

Regarding the anti-discrimination ordinance, which was rescinded by the majority of the provincial board, Damalerio expressed his thoughts as part of the minority.

He questioned why the measure was killed, noting that there were no issues with the sections and provisions of the proposed ordinance.

The ordinance was a requirement for the Seal of Good Local Governance, as mandated by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
