Authorities have seized 24 firearms and arrested 23 civilians for violating the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban, according to a report from the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) on Sunday, February 18.
Of the confiscated weapons, 23 were small arms, one was classified as a light weapon, and 85 rounds of ammunition were also recovered.
The operations stemmed from 21 enforcement actions, including eight police responses, 12 buy-bust operations, and one execution of an arrest warrant.
Those arrested now face charges for violating the election gun ban under COMELEC regulations and Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
BPPO Director Col. ArnelBanzon reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to enforcing the gun ban to maintain peace and order in Bohol ahead of the national and local elections scheduled for May 2025.
