WHEN PEOPLE’S ANGER SWELLS
Surprises and twists make for interesting plots in politics, where nothing is etched in stone and things are fluid and dynamic.
Yet how the people reacted to those who supported VP Sara’s impeachment complaint was unprecedented. Here in Bohol no one expected the people’s sentiments to rally against those perceived close to her but acted in apparent betrayal of their friendship.
While before, political observers noted that the incumbents’ positions were unchallenged, in an instant the tide changed The people’s rising anger gave rise to a serious challenge.
While our sitting officials may have the upper hand from the start, things could drastically change if the public sentiment is sustained.
Gubernatorial bet former Tagbilaran Mayor Atty.Dan Lim may be an underdog and grossly underestimated, but with the way things are moving, he could be giving Gov.Aris Aumentado a run for his money.
It does not help that we are facing a lot pf problems from resurging drug cases, rising costs of food that gravely affect our quality of life, lack of decent and sustainable livelihood, increasing cases pf HIV and ASF and the absence of a clear and concrete direction in our governance.
Depending on which side of our bread is buttered, the general sentiment is that people are frustrated and could be fed up.
But could this be enough to turn the tables over?
The challenger Atty. Dan Lim carries a lot of experience under his belt, having served the capital city of Tagbilaran as Chief Executive for three (3) terms as well as having held the post of City Administrator previously. He may have had his share of controversies but who doesn’t among our politicians?
Yet unquestionably, he left a legacy of government programs that proved useful to city residents even to this day.
I am not an avid fan of the man, but under the circumstances he is worth looking into. His no nonsense approach to governance and political will, helped endear him to city residents. Not one to sugar coat, he is known to be brutally frank. Long years in public service have matured him politically in contrast to the brashness of his youth.
In the days ahead, we look forward to see him and the present Governor engage in intellectual debate and presentation of their platforms of governance and aspirations for our beloved province
This should help our people make up their minds and discern future choices. Anger alone may not be a compelling reason to change horses midstream, but it can very well open our eyes to the sad reality there is.
Let us choose from our hearts and those
that least deceive us. We need leaders with the backbone to govern, and not media-savvy politicians for governance is serious business.
Question is, are we better off now than we were three years ago?
