San Miguel town celebrates 64th foundation day with weeklong activities

The municipality of San Miguel kicked off its weeklong 64th Foundation Day celebration March 8 with a series of cultural, agricultural, and entertainment events under the theme “Uswag San Miguel.”

San Miguel mayor Ian Gil Mendez on Wednesday, told Ardy Araneta-Batoy about the key activities lined up for the occasion.

The festivities begin with a “Kasalan ng Bayan” (Community Wedding) scheduled from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Women’s Day Program in the afternoon starting at 2 p.m.

The celebration continued on March 9, with “KADIWAng Pangulo” from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m., followed by Farmer’s Day activities from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Evening entertainment will feature performances by Youth Performers Band at 7:00 p.m., with Verse Band and Neha Bedaña of “The Voice” and “Idol Philippines” taking the stage at 8:30 p.m.

March 10 will host the Barangay Officials Congress from noon until 7:00 p.m., followed by a Comedy Show featuring Taylor Sheesh, Sasha Ramirez, and April Luz Tolentino from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Athletic competitions take center stage on March 11 with the Mayor’s Cup scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On March 12, the town will conduct a Career Development Support Program from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with “Sumbagay” events planned for the evening starting at 7:00 p.m.

A One Stop Shop will be open on March 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., providing services to town residents.

The celebration culminates on March 14, 2025 with a parade at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at 8:30 a.m. and the official Culmination Program at 9:30 a.m.

A Drum and Lyre Showdown will take place from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Evening entertainment will feature performances by Cebu’s Premiere Artists and Kinto Boys at 7:00 p.m., with Sweet Notes concluding the festivities at 8:00 p.m.

San Miguel was established as an independent municipality in 1961 after being separated from the town of Trinidad.
