Maribojoc Mayor Romulo Manuta (inset, upper left corner) said: “The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 7 (BFAR-7) officially turned over two units of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Bangus Fish Cages to the Kilusang Pag-ugmad sa mga Mananagat ug Mag-uuma sa Bohol, a fisherfolk association in Maribojoc, during a ceremony held after the completion of a specialized training at Bakhawan Hall. The turnover is a key milestone in the association’s efforts to enhance aquaculture-based livelihood opportunities for local fisherfolk. The two fish cages, now fully operational and stocked with 31,650 bangus fingerlings, are strategically located within the Maribojoc Mariculture Park. The event was attended by BFAR-7 personnel, including Gaymelo Lopez, Chief of the Aquaculture Section; Mark Jonel Leornas, In-charge of Bangus Culture in Cage; Justice Piloton and Lou Jean Turno from FPSSD; and Dexter Boyras from RFTFCD. Local government representatives also participated, including Andresa Pohl (SB Secretary), Maria Cindy Escabillas (Municipal Agriculture Office Representative), and Ingrid Ena Gay Hibaya (Fishery Technician), and Maribel Chiu (MAO Staff). The association’s president, Narciso Yap, along with its members, were present to receive the project. The fisherfolk expressed their gratitude to BFAR-7 and the local government for providing both technical training and essential infrastructure, ensuring the project’s sustainability. With the operational fish cages, the association is poised to contribute to local food security, economic stability, and the sustainable development of Maribojoc’s aquaculture industry. Salamat, BFAR!” Contributed photo
