Aumentado’s bodyguard assaults Bohol whistleblower at candidates’ forum

A Boholano whistleblower who exposed corruption practices at Bohol Capitol has filed a police complaint alleging he was assaulted by the bodyguard of Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado following a candidates’ forum at the Metrocentre Hotel on Friday.

According to a police blotter entry from the Tagbilaran City Police Station, the complainant, identified as Ronie Orillosa, claimed he was approached by Gov. Aumentado inside a hotel conference room around 11:30 a.m. on March 14, 2025.

Orillosa said he declined to shake hands with the governor and attempted to move to another table.

The governor allegedly followed him, inquiring about the refusal.

Orillosa reported that an escort of Aumentado, later identied as a certain Jason from Mindanao, then elbowed him in the chest, twisted his shoulder, and pushed him, causing physical injuries.

A bystander, Ardy Ines Araneta Batoy, a broadcast and print journalist covering the event, reportedly tried to intervene but was pushed aside.

Aumentado’s bodyguard reportedly continued to advance on Orillosa causing physical injuries before the altercation ended.

Orillosa later sought medical attention at the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility, where he was examined for tenderness in his left parasternal area.

His medico-legal certificate indicated an estimated recovery time of three to five days barring complications.

Orillosa, who has been involved in previous public disputes with Gov. Aumentado, said he plans to pursue legal action.

Attempts to reach Gov. Aumentado’s office for comment were not immediately returned.

Orillosa, a former student leader and, was once a candidate for Tagbilaran City councilor, has been a vocal critic of Gov. Aumentado’s administration.

In February 2024, he accused the governor of allowing a so-called “league of nine governors” to engage in corrupt practices within the provincial government.

Orillosa claimed this league was allegedly involved in soliciting 30-40 percent commissions from suppliers and investors, leading to missed investment opportunities for Bohol.

In November 2024, Orillosa expressed willingness to expose alleged bribery within the provincial administration, saying that such corruption was widespread and detrimental to public interest.
