Bishop Uy speaks up amid PH political turmoil

Tagbilaran bishop Alberto Uy has posted his thoughts on the current political turmoil affecting the country.
In a Facebook post, the prelate of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, highlighted the events involving the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte who was brought to The Hague, Netherlands.
The events have evoked emotions which are conflicting and may cause division among Filipinos.
“Witnessing this event has sparked serious emotions, even discord among our fellow Filipinos, that if left unattended can divide us further as a nation. We do not want to tread this path,” he said.
He warned against continued conflicts as it may hurt us as a nation.
“While the Catholic Church respects the differing views of our fellow Filipinos—those who are gravely hurt by what they saw, and those who felt vindicated by the turn of events, we must remind our fellow citizens that we cannot continue down the path of conflict which will eventually lead us to destruction as a nation.” he added.
He said we have a sacred responsibility to future generations as we need to ensure that patriotism will remain alive.
With this heightened scrutiny leveled at the government, it is crucial that leaders guarantee accountability, transparency, and fairness in their actions even amidst disbelief, antagonism, and mockery.
Moreover, he wrote, “We call on our fellow Filipinos, our church leaders of all denominations, to revisit our love of country.”
The bishop added, “As we find ourselves in a delicate crossroad in our nation’s history, let us turn to prayers, seeking God’s power of healing for every pained heart, every violated sensitivity, every broken hope, every aching spirit, and every wounded soul. “
