Bohol Light has successfully powered Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School, connecting the institution to the power grid and providing a brighter future for its students, the company announced Saturday.
The electrification project, completed in response to a request from Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap, bares Bohol Light’s commitment to delivering reliable and efficient service to the community.
Roel Castro, the company’s president and chief executive officer, said the swift action reflects the utility’s operational standards in Iloilo, Negros and now Tagbilaran.
“We believe that a modern city needs a modern utility,” Castro said. “We cannot have a modern city, and we cannot be aligned with the objectives of the city in bringing it to the next level, bringing new investors, if the utility’s service doesn’t improve.”
The newly installed electricity at Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School goes beyond illumination, enabling internet access critical for education in the digital age.
Castro noted the necessity of power in schools amid climate change and the growing importance of connectivity.
“These days, electricity is essential in schools because of climate change, and I think the most important thing is connectivity,” he said. “Now that there is electricity, we will make sure that it will be constant. It will always be there. The connectivity, the internet, is already a tool for learning for everyone.”
School Principal Dr. Legardo Palaca, Jr. hailed the connection as a milestone, calling it a “historical day” for the school.
“Our patience is rewarded because finally, we have a permanent electrical connection,” Palaca said. “May this electrical connection be a reason for us to strive more, to give our best, to the best interest of our students.”
Mayor Yap praised the collaboration between the city government and Bohol Light, noting its impact on local education initiatives.
“This lighting up of our school is also a testament to our commitment to our education program in Tagbilaran City,” she said. “Bohol Light, you are not only physically lighting up the school and, of course, all the classrooms, but you are also lighting up the future of our students.”
