OUR MESSY POLITICS
Gone were the days when our politics stood on principles and ideologies. When it was either black or white or red or blue; now we have a kaleidoscope of colors, as colorful as the rainbow.
Just looking at the local scene, we have crisscrossing allegiances and alliances spurred by personal interest and convenience. Self- preservation is paramount as lines are blurred and hazy.
That in politics there are no permanent friends or enemies but interests couldn’t be more true. Where else can you find a political patron endorsing candidates at odds with one another?
Like celebrity endorsers they endorse candidates left and right giving people a glimpse of their kind of politics.
For instance, what message is being conveyed when in the case of a “power couple”, the husband is being endorsed but the wife is not? Her opponent is.
Take the case of the party list representatives, too. Under our current electoral setup only one party list is to be voted upon. Yet we find plastered all over, pictures of this ” bigwig” with no less than 5 party list groups endorsing them.
Even product endorsers are not endorsing competing brands for obvious reasons. What then does this tell us? Are we to believe in one’s sincerity seeing all these?
For some, politics may just be another dirty game to play. But when your future and that of our succeeding generations lie in the hands of those we entrust our mandate to. there is so much to really think about
Our people deserve better and not just to be mere pawns in a game they play. What we really need are leaders who we can comfortably entrust the quality of life we desire.
With so many problems our country is facing, the least we want is for our politics to become a circus. Yet seeing the happy faces of candidates in their campaign posters, let us ask ourselves. Are they for real?
Send in the clowns no more!
