Bohol 3rd district Congressional candidate Atty. Mc Aldous “Makdo” Castañares has urged the organizers of the Bohol Poll to be more transparent about the methodology and data of their latest survey.
The Bohol Poll, conducted by the Center for Research and Publications of Holy Name University (HNU), showed incumbent Rep. Kristine Alexie Tutor leading Castañares in their head-to-head race in the 3rd District.
Castañares said he had no knowledge of the survey being conducted and questioned its transparency.
He called on the organizers to disclose which parts of the district were surveyed and to clarify the sample size used.
HNU, during the public presentation of the Bohol Poll 2025, stated that 100 respondents were surveyed in each of Bohol’s three districts, and another 100 in Tagbilaran City, for a total of 400 respondents.
The survey was conducted from March 6 to 29, 2025.
Castañares expressed concern that only 100 respondents represented the 3rd District, which has around 360,000 registered voters.
He also claimed that other candidates were informed about the survey, but he was not.
Despite his reservations, Castañares said he continues to respect HNU and does not intend to offend the university or its officials.
He called for fairness, objectivity, and transparency in initiatives meant to gauge public sentiment.
Castañares said he would use the poll results as motivation to work harder.
He also claimed that some incumbent barangay officials support him but are hesitant to express it publicly for fear of political repercussions.
He criticized Tutor’s signing of the resolution endorsing the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte without consulting constituents, saying it may impact the upcoming election.
He noted that the final decision lies with the voters and vowed to continue working and praying for their support.
Castañares also explained his repeated reference to “No. 120,” referring to Tutor’s position as the 120th signatory of the impeachment resolution.
He noted that Tutor and Vice President Duterte are close friends, describing them as “kumares” (godmothers to each other’s children).
