WISHFUL THINKING

How we wish our lives could be made better by people who sincerely aspire to lead us.

The elections are forthcoming and still here we are, time and again, hoping for better things to come. Change and good governance are much abused “cliches” used to lure our support.

Candidates promise the heavens and the earth to court our votes. Yet, despite their lofty promises and plans what much has changed?

It seems we are stuck on an endless cycle of  ambition, corruption and greed. While we cannot blame ourselves for being cynical at times, we must find the courage to get out of this rut.

Sacrifices have to be made and personal interests must be set aside. Our choices must be blind to our own benefit and convenience but open to what brings society the greater good.

We cannot elect good leaders if we keep thinking only of ourselves and how we can be better off. more than others. We must learn to look after those less fortunate than us.

Every election we clamor for change and demand good governance but are we doing enough?  Experience should have taught us valuable lessons but it seems we easily forget and never learn.

Yet, despite this state of frustration, we have the power to turn things around. If we remain resolute and stand our ground perhaps, we can overcome the odds.

But if we do not put up a good fight, things will always be the same. The rich and powerful will lord it over. We will always be at the mercy of the corrupt and greedy among us.

How we wish we could turn things around. How we wish food to put on our tables would be more affordable. How we wish we could be earning enough to afford even the basics in life.

Many things we can wish and hope for. But come election day in May, we can have these within our grasp. Let’s learn to start thinking beyond ourselves and act on it.

Vote wisely and well!
