The implementation of the first phase of the Tubigon Resettlement Project is set to begin.
With funding secured by Cong. Edgar Chatto for project implementation by the National Housing Authority (NHA), the project will now allow for the construction of 80 housing units.
This is 15 more from the original 65 units, following the finalized budget allocation of P60 million.
NHA Bohol Team Leader Genesis Caesar Manalili updated Chatto on the much awaited resettlement project for families living in the island barangays of Tubigon, where sea level rise is felt due to climate change.
The 80 housing units will be located in a 7,842.22 square meter lot in Barangay Genonocan in Tubigon.
Each rowhouse with a 28.40sq.m floor area will sit on a 40sq.m. lot in the relocation development with concrete roads, reinforced concrete pipes for drainage, sanitary facilities.
The project site also includes provisions for a multi purpose basketball court, tricycle terminal, materials recovery facility and talipapa.
Cong. Chatto pushed for the funding allocation in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Tubigon led by Mayor William Jao and Vice Mayor Rene Villaber along with project coordinator Joseph Lagorra.
He had facilitated a discussion with the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development chair Cong. Kiko Benitez, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), NHA through general manager Joeben Tai and the National Anti Poverty Commission (NAPC) early on.
Chatto, climate change chair in Congress, also previously partnered with the Bohol Nature Conservation Society, Greenpeace Philippines and Rice Watch Action Network on the Bohol Climate Emergency Response Roadmap for Small Islands that involved the island barangays in Tubigon.
Earlier, the Tubigon Isles and Mainland Homeowners Association, Inc. (TIMHOA) led by president Mary Queen Cajegas expressed gratitude and strong support for Cong. Chatto.
They also formally endorsed their support for the candidacy of Chatto in an Executive Committee Resolution No. 002-2025 which they handed during their 3rd general assembly.
They cited Chatto’s track record of commitment to public service and a deep understanding of the needs of the people of Tubigon.
