Since 2019, the Municipal Health Office of Jagna, under the visionary leadership of Mayor Joseph A. Rañola (inset, upper left corner), has been steadfast in its mission to provide accessible, quality, and free healthcare services to all Jagnaanons. This program was conceptualized with a strong belief that health is a fundamental right and no one should be deprived of medical attention due to financial constraints. Vision and Commitment Mayor Rañola’s vision is clear: “Every Jagnaanon must have access to free medicines and laboratory services.” With this in mind, the Municipal Health Office, through Rural Health Units (RHU) 1 and 2, rolled out a comprehensive health program focused on prevention, early detection, treatment, and continuous care. Free Laboratory and Diagnostic Services. Since the program’s inception, RHU 1 and RHU 2 have consistently offered the following services at no cost to residents: Sputum Examination; Stool Analysis; Urinalysis; Blood Typing; Random Blood Sugar (RBS) Testing; Complete Blood Count (CBC); Blood Uric Acid Test; Cholesterol Test; Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Screening; HIV Testing; Dengue NS1 Antigen Test. These laboratory tests have significantly contributed to early detection and management of various illnesses, reducing complications and improving patient outcomes. Free Medicines and Maintenance Support. To complement diagnostic services, free medicines are also distributed to those in need. This includes medications for common ailments, chronic illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes, and other essential drugs based on physician prescriptions from RHU consultations. Maternal and Child Healthcare Services. One of the pillars of this program is the Maternal and Child Health Care services offered by RHU 1 and 2. These services are vital in promoting safe motherhood and healthy childhood, and include: Prenatal Check-ups; Labor Watch to Safe Delivery; Postpartum Care; Newborn Screening; Routine Immunizations for Infants and Children. Through these efforts, maternal and infant health indicators in the municipality have significantly improved, with more mothers receiving complete prenatal care and more newborns being screened and vaccinated on time. Impact on the Community. From 2019 to 2025, thousands of Jagnaanons have benefitted from these free health services. The RHUs have become a trusted and essential health partner in every barangay, providing not only medical attention but also health education, preventive care, and community outreach activities. Residents now feel more empowered to seek early consultation and regular check-ups, leading to better health awareness and disease prevention. The Municipal Health Office, in coordination with local health workers and volunteers, continues to extend its services even to remote and underserved communities. Sustaining the Vision. As this program moves forward, the Municipal Health Office remains dedicated to sustaining and improving the quality of healthcare services in Jagna. With continued support from Mayor Joseph A. Rañola and the local government with the partnership of Vice Mayor Teofisto P. Pagar Jr., the RHUs are set to expand their reach, upgrade facilities, and introduce more innovative programs that prioritize the well-being of every Jagnaanon. Contributed photo
