Tagbilaran receives Plaque of Recognition from FISH Visayas

The City Government of Tagbilaran was honored with a Plaque of Recognition by the Fostering Inclusive and Sustainable Habitats (FISH) Visayas Project – Phase II on April 23, 2025, during the FISH Visayas Forum and Networking Night held in Cebu City, as part of the 2025 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week hosted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The award acknowledges the city’s outstanding contribution to promoting sustainable fisheries and marine ecosystem management by effectively integrating Blue Economy principles into local governance.

It also affirms the city’s dedication to building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for its coastal communities.

The plaque was received on behalf of the city by Ms. Mary Jane Sague of the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office (CAVO), and presented by the German Agency for International Cooperation and Afrika Fonds für Selbständigkeit (AFOS) Foundation for Entrepreneurial Development Cooperation through Mr. Norbert Weiss, FISH Visayas Project Management Adviser and Ms. Yvette Hope Labus, Project Manager and Philippine Resident Foundation.

Through the strong leadership of Mayor Jane Yap and the continued efforts of the City Government, Tagbilaran has emerged as a model for other LGUs across the region in implementing community-based and ecosystem-driven approaches to marine resource management.

The city’s initiatives—guided by science, policy innovation, and participatory governance—have empowered fishing communities, strengthened livelihoods, and upheld the city’s commitment to marine conservation.

“This recognition is not just for the local government, but for every fisher folk, every coastal family, and every fishing community who relies on the sea to live and thrive,” said Mayor Jane Yap. “We owe it to them and to the next generation to protect our marine ecosystems and ensure that the bounties of the sea will reach Tagbilaranons.”

Tagbilaran is one of only four LGUs in Bohol recognized for this achievement, solidifying its place as a leader in inclusive and sustainable coastal development.

The award stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between local leaders, international development partners, and the people they serve.

Tagbilaran City launches massive post-elections cleanup drive

Tagbilaran City — Following the 2025 national and local elections, the City Government of Tagbilaran is launching a massive post-election cleanup drive on May 15 and 16 mobilizing government offices and community leaders to restore cleanliness in public spaces.

The citywide initiative will involve barangay officials, department heads, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation members, and city government employees. The effort is part of the city’s commitment to maintain order and environmental responsibility after the political season.

The campaign will focus on the removal of campaign posters and tarpaulins, proper waste collection and disposal, community cleanup drives, and the enforcement of local sanitation regulations. A strong emphasis is being placed on sustainability, with collected tarpaulins to be repurposed through the city’s “Trash to Bags” program under the City Livelihood and Community Development Unit.

City officials are encouraging not only government personnel but also civic groups and private volunteers to join the cleanup. The goal, they said, is to instill a culture of shared responsibility in keeping Tagbilaran clean and orderly.

Mayor Jane C. Yap emphasized the importance of unity in the initiative, stating that the drive is an opportunity for residents to show pride in their city. “This effort is more than just tidying up—it reflects our collective desire for a greener, more livable Tagbilaran,” she said.

The cleanup campaign is part of the city’s broader environmental agenda and reinforces Tagbilaran’s drive toward inclusive and sustainable governance.

City Government of Tagbilaran employees lead the charge in removing campaign tarpaulins along city streets as part of the May 15-16, 2025 Post-Elections Cleanup Drive. Spearheaded by Mayor Jane Yap, this initiative brings together barangay officials, SK members, and volunteers to restore public spaces and promote environmental responsibility citywide.
