 The sixth film in The Karate Kid film series about a kung fu prodigy who embarks on a journey to enter the ultimate karate competition, “Karate Kid Legends” is now showing at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.  

After a family tragedy, kung fu fighter Li Fong (Ben Wang) leaves his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother to attend a prestigious new school, where he finds solace in a new friendship with a classmate and her father. 

        Li struggles to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn’t want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere. When a new friend needs his help, Li catches the attention of a fierce local karate champion. With his life in danger, he enters a karate competition – but his skills alone aren’t enough. Li’s kung fu teacher Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) for help, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.

The fifth film in the “John Wick” series, serving as a spin-off set between the events of “John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum” in 2019, and “John Wick: Chapter 4” in 2023, “Ballerina” will premiere on Wednesday, June 4, at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.  

        Cuban actress Ana de Armas (James Bond’s “No Time To Die”) stars as a ballerina assassin, Eve Macarro, who trains as a killer in the traditions of the Ruska Roma, a crime syndicate that trained John Wick as a youth and helped him become the world’s most fearsome assassin. 

         After the murder of her father, Eve embarks on a vengeful quest to hunt down those who killed her family.  As she hunts her prey, she comes face to face with John Wick who is sent to stop her.    

         In case you didn’t know, the character Eve originally appeared in “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” where she was played by New York-based professional ballet dancer Unity Phelan. During Phelan’s brief scene in the movie, John Wick crosses paths with the Ballerina. 

“BALLERINA” will premiere on Wednesday, June 4, at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.  

ALTURAS “OPERATION: FREE TULI” 

833 children circumcised 

A total of 833 young patients had availed themselves of free circumcision offered by the Alturas Group of Companies, through its Alay Marcela Foundation, conducted in the summer months of April and May, this year.   

The Alturas “Operation: Libreng Tuli” was scheduled in nine barangays of Bohol, and two Alturas stores in Tagbilaran City and Talibon, with the coordination of the respective Rural Health Units and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs).  

The number of children circumcised per barangay/store are as follows: Poblacion, Cortes – 84 (April 26); Lincod, Maribojoc – 60 (April 27); Catagbacan Norte, Loon – 75 (May 3); Alturas Mall, Tagbilaran City – 74 (May 4); Cabatang, Alicia – 45 (May 17); Gabi, Ubay – 173 (May 18); Alturas-Talibon – 68 (May 24); Tabalong, Dauis – 44 (May 26); Bolod, Panglao – 85 (May 27); and Tultugan, Calape – 45 (May 28).         

         Meanwhile, Alturas Group of Companies donated another P100,000 to the poor as financial assistance to the helpless folks who seek help for urgent emergency cases like hospitalization and medicine purchases. The P100,000 check from Alturas was turned-over last Friday morning to DYRD anchorman Allen Doydora of Tagbilaran-By-Night at DYRD lobby.
