A New Chapter for Cortes: Mayor Rudy Uy on Hard Work, Faith, and Service

By Ardy Ines Aranet-Batoy

In a thrilling election outcome that will be etched in the annals of Bohol politics, Rudy Uy emerged victorious as the new mayor of Cortes, beating his closest rival by a hair’s breadth margin of just seven votes. Despite the odds, Uy’s unwavering dedication to his constituents and his unshakeable faith in God propelled him to victory.

In an exclusive interview with this writer,  Mayor-elect Uy reflected on his remarkable win, attributing it to his tireless efforts and the trust the people of Cortes have placed in him. “I knew I had worked hard, and I was confident that the people would see my sincerity and commitment to serving them,” Uy said humbly.

What sets Uy’s victory apart is the absence of deep pockets or influential backers. Without solid financial backing, he relied on his genuine connection with the people and his conviction that God was guiding him every step of the way. “I prayed hard for the people’s favor, and I’m grateful that they saw fit to entrust me with the leadership of our town,” Uy shared, his voice filled with gratitude.

As Uy prepares to take the reins of leadership, he is acutely aware of the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. He is committed to serving every resident of Cortes, regardless of whether they voted for him or not. “Everyone has the right to choose his/her leaders, and I respect that decision. My pledge is to serve each and every one of them with dedication and fairness,” Uy emphasized.

One of the most significant developments on the horizon for Cortes is the imminent inauguration of the Gov. Celestino Gallares Multi-Specialty Medical Center. This state-of-the-art hospital, conceived by outgoing Cong. Edgar Chatto during his tenure as governor, promises to revolutionize healthcare services in the province. Uy is eager to address the minor issues that remain, including ensuring a stable water supply, to make the hospital fully operational.

The hospital’s impact will be felt beyond the healthcare sector, as it is expected to boost Cortes’ economy by attracting visitors and patients from across Bohol. Uy envisions the hospital as a game-changer for the town, providing new opportunities for economic growth and development.

A licensed civil engineer who graduated from the University of Bohol, Uy brings a unique perspective to governance. His platform is built on the principles of service without favoritism, with a focus on addressing pressing issues such as water supply, livelihood, agriculture, healthcare, and senior citizen welfare. He is also committed to maintaining peace and order, recognizing that a safe and secure environment is essential for the town’s progress.

As Cortes embarks on a new chapter under Uy’s leadership, there is a palpable sense of hope and optimism. With his vision, dedication, and faith, Uy is poised to bring about positive change and transform the town for the better. The people of Cortes have entrusted him with a sacred responsibility, and he is ready to rise to the challenge.
