The race for president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) in Bohol has intensified as several mayors seek the top leadership position.
Leading in the pack of interested candidates is Candijay Mayor Thamar Olaivar, who is reportedly backed by national government officials.
Meanwhile, Dauis Mayor Marietta Sumaylo is seeking another term as president of the organization representing the province’s town mayors, according to reports.
Sumaylo previously led the group from 2019 to 2022.
Sources say Sumaylo has solicited support from mayors, including one in the third district who instead expressed backing for Carmen Mayor Conchita de los Reyes.
Rep. Kristine Alexie Tutor also reportedly supports de los Reyes.
The previous term saw the presidency shared between two second district mayors — Buenavista Mayor Dave Duallo and former President Carlos P. Garcia town Mayor Fernando Estavilla (now Board Member).
A movement has emerged to support a third district mayor for the position.
Catigbian Mayor Benjie Oliva is among other potential candidates.
The League of Municipalities typically holds elections in July or August following general elections.
