From the Outside Looking In

BY:DONALD SEVILLA

THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL

They say money is the root of all evil. Indeed it is but who doesn’t need money ?

Young or old we need money to survive in this temporal world. But for all its material worth, money should not dictate the way we live.

Since time immemorial it has caused conflicts, brought nations to war and men to betray one another. Love of money has caused us to be greedy and crave for more.

Yet the more we have, the less others have. Our insatiable greed has caused a wide disparity  in the distribution of opportunities and resources that has led to a wide wealth gap adversely affecting our society.

He who has money wields power and influence. People tend to look the other way when moneyed folks commit transgressions.

It”s a sad fact ,but when it comes to money and power we set different standards for the materially wealthy.

The problems that hound our country such as corruption and other ills have pecuniary roots. Men resort to crime when they have none and to keep what more they already have.

Why do you think some people engage in the business of drugs and other illicit undertakings despite the risks? Because the rewards are generous

and money flows  freely.

It is not unthinkable then that men commit crimes and resort to violence and murder to protect their material wealth.

People have killed for less, how much more for billions? When we have money as our priority we lose our moral compass.

We lose our foothold and feel high above the clouds to play God. We forget who we are and think we can get away  with just about anything.

Almost anything, until  reality sets in and good overcomes evil to set things right!
