Lopez, MD (foreground), convened an awareness meeting with all barangay captains on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Loon Municipal Activity Center in a proactive effort to protect the municipality’s livestock industry from the looming threat of African Swine Fever (ASF).

The meeting was also attended by Vice Mayor Pedro Literatus Jr., Municipal Councilor Emerson S. Relampagos, and personnel from the Municipal Agriculture Office, who joined Mayor Lopez in rallying barangay leaders to step up preventive measures against ASF.

Mayor Lopez emphasized the importance of early detection, swift reporting, and community vigilance, urging barangay officials to strengthen biosecurity protocols and educate backyard hog raisers on the risks and symptoms of the virus. “Our goal is to safeguard not just the local swine industry but also the livelihood of many of our constituents,” he said.

Protecting the local swine industry is vital not only for food security, but also for preserving the economic resilience and livelihood of many Loonanon families. (Contributed photo.)
