KFC – A New Wave of Youth Leadership Amplifying Voices for a Better Society

In a world where silence can be deafening, a group of young advocates is breaking the mold and amplifying their voices for change. Meet the KABATAAN FOR CHANGE (KFC), a dynamic collective of young leaders determined to educate, empower, and inspire others to effect meaningful reforms in governance.

The Faces of Change

Representatives Jhon Lowie S. Bugahod, Jacqueline Nicole R. Baquero, Ivy M. Betalmos, and Carl Jones A. Hinlo (the group leader), are the faces of this movement. With their unique perspectives and experiences, they’re taking the lead in shaping the future of their community.

As guests on Friday’s radio program over dyTR dubbed as  NEWSMAKERS UG UBAN PA, they shared their vision for a better Bohol, where the youth are empowered to assert their place and raise their voices on vital issues.

According to Carl Jones A. Hinlo, a political science genius and barangay kagawad of Catigbian, Bohol, it’s time for the youth to take center stage. “Governance has become a ‘circus’ with numerous unresolved issues,” he lamented. “We need to educate young people about governance and its processes to expand their horizons and knowledge.” Hinlo’s words echo the sentiments of many young people who are eager to make a difference.

Jhon Lowie S. Bugahod, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation president of Balilihan and Engineering student at BISU (Bohol Island State University) main campus in Tagbilaran City, embodies the fearlessness that defines KFC. “I’m not afraid to speak the truth,” he declared. “Boholanos need to hear new perspectives, especially from the youth.” Bugahod’s conviction is inspiring, and his message is clear: the youth will no longer be silenced.

Empowering the Youth is the mantra of Ivy M. Betalmos. A Criminology student, Ivy emphasized that gender shouldn’t hinder anyone from voicing their opinions. “As long as you’re telling the truth, don’t be afraid to speak up,” she advised.

Jacqueline Nicole R. Baquero, another member, echoed the same sentiment, saying she’s not intimidated by the risks of being vocal about her advocacies. She’s determined to live a life anchored on genuine service, unwavering dedication, and solid commitment to stand for what is right and just.

The KFC group has been given a powerful platform to share their views on radio every Friday, with a dedicated column in THE BOHOL TRIBUNE every Sunday. This opportunity will allow them to amplify their voices, inspire others, and create a ripple effect of change.

As the youth take center stage, one thing is clear: Kabataan for Change is igniting a movement that will shape the future of Bohol. With their fearless voices and unwavering commitment, they’re proving that change is possible when we work together.
