This edition of VOX POPULI is featuring the netizens’ reactions, responses and comments to the statement posted on the FB wall of the Managing Editor of The Bohol Tribune. The statement is about some charges at the guard house going to the Terminal.

The statement is: “Naay nangutana naho: ‘Nganong mubayad man ta ug P12 inig sulod sa pantalan?’ Help me answer the question.” (Somebody asked me: Why do we have to pay P12 as we enter the seaport? Please help me answer the question.)

The responses, comments and reactions

posted by the netizens were:

What skills are needed and what services are offered by port operators that can’t be handled by the PPA or the govt? If PPA can’t, Congress or Senate must investigate and review port operation contracts. Services in ports have never been efficient under private operators; private operators failed in giving true service to the public but is SO EFFICIENT in collection- extracting money from the public/people (the supposed owners of the facility, and the clients who are supposed to be served.

The pier facility is not part of any LGU’s territory, hence, it has to pay for its own upkeep. The entrance fee helps to take care of that. As long as we can see that the facility is well-maintained, in a spic-and-span condition, personally i have no issue with that. In fairness to them, public transport vehicles are exempted from paying that, thereby not adding to the burden of PUV drivers.

Aside from netizens giving their

comments, the following also expressed
