THE TRUE STATE OF OUR LIVES
Politics can interfere into almost every aspect of our daily lives. Even as ordinary citizens we are affected by decisions made in the halls of power where whispers can be “deafening” to influence policy.
Our democracy is such that it is tainted with too much politics, compromises and partisanship that it gets in the way of genuine public service.
While our leaders can be dead serious in their governance, the rotten system impedes transparency and accountability.
The President’s Fourth SONA brought cheers and standing applause from the crowd, where he admitted learning lessons after dismal failures in his administration, referring to flood control projects , demànding accountability from those in government.
To our people this was a welcome relief to tackle corruption head-on. Yet for all the politicians present, such spectacle seen on live television was meant for public consumption as many of them were whom the President was referring to.
It was the height of hypocrisy to pretend to be clean when they were hounded by issues of budget insertions and utilizing the controversial “ayuda” for their political interests.
Seeing the cheering crowd was quite ironic like entrusting the wolves to look after the sheep.
But such is the folly of a system where the corrupt call the shots and act as though they are morally ascendant than the rest of us.
Yet the upside to the President’s SONA was that he laid down the framework for a legacy he wishes to leave our country.
Should he succeed in doing so, it will be a great act of redemption to clear his family name in the annals of our history.
With three more years to go into his term, the nation is awaiting with bated breath. It is not too late to turn things around and hopefully he could do the task.
All we need is give him a chance but critique things constructively to help rebuild our nation and set it free from the clutches of corruption.
As for our beloved Bohol what future can we look forward to? We have to ascertain the “real state” of our province apart from the fact that most everything we need costs gold!
